Chapter 4:
My first thought when I followed Asoroth was to turn and run back to Zach’s. I really don’t know why I am even listening to this beast. I’m not sure of what I am supposed to do or why he even wants me.
“You do not have to call me Asoroth, most of my friends just call me Roth,” his Welsh accent sounding very strong.
“Well, I don’t think captives are considered werewolves’ friends, but I guess I can’t argue with that logic, huh?” I said as sarcastically as possible.
“I do hope you realize that you are the boundary between us, the “Fictionals,” and the real world.”
“Um, what is that supposed to mean? Is this a joke or are you, like, trying to get me killed?”
“Me? Try to kill you? Oh you mortals crack me up, but I guess you can’t be considered a mortal can you? Well, I really need you to get a move on before twilight comes.”
I hadn’t noticed it, but I had fallen way behind Roth. I jogged up to him but it felt like it had been a very hard effort at that.
“What’s so wrong with twilight?” I ask intuitively.
“Oh, twilight is the time that the Dark Ones are strongest. And no that is not the vampires but these are demons raised from Hell itself. They are bred by the San Queros, an organization of the most evil forces known to man, including Disney Villains.”
“Well that sounds very depressing in so many ways. My feet hurt just trying to catch up with you, can I ride on your back?”
“Laura, you are the most important person in the world at the moment and you’re worried about your feet hurting? Gosh, you mundies need to get some exercise in this world. Fine, you made ride on my back until we get there, but you need to tell me all that you believe you know about the Fictionals.”
“Fictionals? Oh yeah, the people in my stories. One, I do know that there are the supposive Gods of Olympus but I’m Baptist so. . .” I left that hanging there for Roth to just know that I do not really believe in the gods.
“That I do understand Laura, I really do. I was a Methodist before I became a lycanthrope. Leaving my family was the hardest when I turned, but it was for the best. I look at the pictures that I have of them every night so I don’t forget them, as if I could.”
“Aw, I’m so sorry Roth, but did you ever find out who it was that turned you? I mean did it matter to you that much?” I ask sentimentally.
“No, no Laura tis completely fine. But what are the other stories of the Fictionals do you know?” He seemed intent to change the subject though he made it seem like he did not care about his past, which confused me.
“Okay, so are there really Wizards that call us Muggles? And is there a world beyond ours that has a magical lion named Aslan?”
“Yes, and no. There are actually wizards but most of them reside in England. And there is a Narnia but the leader is not know as Aslan but as The Divine.”
“Why The Divine? Is that because he is rarely seen and only appears in times of distress?”
“Again, yes and no. Aslan is his real name but they know him as The Divine.” Roth says sincerely.
Right when Roth ended with that, my watch beeped, signaling that it was now 12 o’clock, meaning it was now twilight.
